Broccoli (De Cicco)
  • Brassica oleracea var. italica

  • Growing Instructions

    • Start indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost

    • Sow seeds with a depth of ¼"

    • Plant outdoors just before the last frost

    • Seeds should be planted 24” apart

    • Full sunlight and a regular supply of water are needed

    • Can be grown as both a spring and fall crop

    • Ready to harvest in approximately 48-85 days

  • Tips & Tricks

    • This plant has a variable maturity that can be used for an extended harvest time

    • The second yield may develop edible side shoots

  • Seed Saving

    • Broccoli needs cross pollination, making it more challenging to seed save

    • Allow the head you are saving from to fully mature and become yellow

    • Flowers on the head will bloom and then turn into pods

    • Once the pods dry on the plant, remove the plant from the ground and hang to dry for two weeks

    • Remove the pods from the plant and crush them to release the seeds

    • Store in a cool, dry place. Seeds are viable for up to five years
