Happy Juneteenth!

On June 19, 1865, federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed, despite this event taking place two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. 

The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture is a phenomenal resource to learn about the importance of Juneteenth and the incredible stories and history that comes with it.
