Concrete has been poured for the foundation of the expansion off the front side of the building. Elevator work continues, as well as work on the fire sprinkler system. Renovation of the existing main floor and mezzanine is well underway as well.
The Library is open! Our entrance has changed. Please drive past the old entrance, to find the new entrance and exit to the lot. You cannot walk into the building from the old walkway. Our temporary entrance is in the parking lot, up the ramp on the side of the building.
Demolition has begun! While the physical building is closed, you can return books and DVDs to any Suffolk County Public Library location, and they will be delivered back to us.
The physical library building will close in July and August for the parking lot reconstruction and reconfiguration, along with all interior and exterior demolition. This closure prioritizes patron and staff safety while maximizing construction progress and cost savin
Our plans were officially approved by New York State, and a building permit was issued. Staff are preparing the building site to become an active construction zone this summer!

The building renovation and project is really starting to take shape – on paper! Our architects are finalizing design and engineering plans with staff input, to send to Albany for SED approval. In the meantime, environmental testing, engineering work, and more is continuing behind the scenes.

Q. When will work begin?
A. As a school district public library, the building project falls under NYS Education Department review, which can be a lengthy process. Actual construction is not slated to start until early 2021.
